Yardbird Suite Volunteer Information
The Edmonton Jazz
Society is a non-profit organization that operates Edmonton's
premier jazz club The Yardbird Suite. We are dedicated to the
presentation and promotion of live local, national and
international jazz music. It didn't take long for the Yardbird
Suite to become the premier venue for jazz in Canada.
Our programming has enabled local musicians to play with some of
the world's luminaries of jazz. In partnership with the CBC and
Radio Canada, we broadcast nationally on a regular basis.
The 'Suite" currently hosts weekly Tuesday Night jam sessions as
well as our regular Friday and Saturday shows. All shows are
manned by VOLUNTEERS! who get to hear fantastic music, meet
others who love the music, have fun and receive a volunteer pass
to see a future performance at the Suite.
Our volunteers range in age from mid teens to seniors. We are
always looking for new volunteer talent and we would love to
have you join our team!
Volunteers at the
Yardbird Suite work in these five main areas:
Kitchen:
Clean glassware in dishwasher, make popcorn, bus tables during
intermission, help out where ever needed.
Bar:
Serve beer, wine highball drinks, coffee, tea, juice, etc. You
don't need to have bartending skills and we do not make fancy
drinks / cocktails.
Box Office:
Sell tickets, memberships, CDs if the performing artist has
brought any.
Lobby Greeter:
Take tickets from patrons coming into the 'Suite' and greet
people!
Transportation:
Pick up musicians from airport and take to hotel, sound checks,
etc. You get to meet and talk to some very interesting people!
We also appreciate
help in other areas such as building maintenance, lawn cutting
and other seasonal jobs, working our casino event ( every 18-24
months ), shopping, and newsletter distribution.
We'd love to have you join our team of VOLUNTEERS!
We hope you will enjoy being a part of the Yardbird Suite team
as much as we enjoy seeing you down at the Suite!
